Washington Spirit News Release
Washington, D.C. - Today the Washington Spirit announces its 2022 front-of-jersey partner, effective at the start of the regular season on Sunday, May 1. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts will take center stage on the defending NWSL champions' 10th Anniversary Kit. It is the first partnership of its kind for the nation's performing arts center.
This new partnership aligns with the Washington Spirit's focus on being a proud representative of our nation's capital and deepens its support for and involvement in the greater Washington, D.C. community. "The arts and sports have both served as unifying beacons of light in the District throughout a colorful and illustrious history. Whether it be through the long list of world- class athletes who have competed for DC, the 12 league championships the District's seven major professional sports teams have combined for or the seemingly unending list of acclaimed operas, musicals, festivals, dance and theatrical performances, Washington, D.C. is known across the nation as a unique cultural hotspot," says Washington Spirit Majority Owner Michele Kang. "We're honored to collaborate with the Kennedy Center and are excited for the multitude of ways in which this will deepen the connection between the sports and arts communities in this region."
"As we celebrate the Center's rich history and look to the future of the arts during our 50th anniversary, we are honored to participate in an unprecedented partnership with this team of champions," said Kennedy Center President Deborah F. Rutter. "This collaboration with Washington Spirit creates an opportunity for the Center and the team to shift the way our audiences experience the relationship between the arts and sports in the city."
Recognizing the multitude of ways in which sports and the arts can intersect, The Kennedy Center and the Washington Spirit will collaborate closely to provide opportunities for fans and supporters to experience both. This first-of-its-kind programming-centric, content-driven partnership seeks to further the Kennedy Center's wide-range of artistic offerings while elevating women's professional sports regionally, nationally and globally.
Fans and supporters can place their pre-sale order for this new kit featuring the Kennedy Center on May 1 starting at 10 a.m. ET in the Washington Spirit online store.
The Washington Spirit kick off the 2022 regular season at 5:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, May 1 at Audi Field against Seattle's OL Reign. Notably, the season opener will also present the official championship celebration including the championship ring ceremony, a celebratory banner reveal, the unveiling of a proclamation from Mayor Muriel Bowser designating November 20th as Washington Spirit Day and a musical performance from Grammy Award-Winning Artist Ella Mai.
