Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PAâ The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, closed a busy weekend with a 7-1 victory over the Florence Freedom Sunday night in Florence, KY.
The two squads played five games in just three days, with Washington taking four of five. The Wild Things improve to 52-28 on the season, and their magic number to clinch the Eastern Division now stands at 10 with Chillicothe and Kalamazoo both losing on Sunday.
Washington took an early 4-0 lead in the third inning thanks to an RBI single by Chad Kinyon and a two-run homer from L.J. Biernbaum. Jay Coakley, who had been activated from the injured reserve prior to the game, added a home run and a pair of runs. Washington's hitting coach, Ryan Ellis, was activated several days ago and earned his first playing time since 2003. He chipped in two singles and scored a run.
Eric Fischer pushed his record to 6-6 by defeating his former team. He gave up zero earned runs in seven innings of work. Adam Morrison (1-9) shouldered the defeat for the Freedom.
The Wild Things are back in action tomorrow as they travel to Richmond for a three-game series. Monday's game is scheduled to start at 6:35 p.m.
