Off the Bench: Coco Miller has been a spark for the Mystics off the bench for the past two games. Against Detroit, Miller was 4-for-6 from the field and 2-for-2 from the line. She had 10 points. On June 26th, Miller was 5-for-6 from the field with 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. In the last two games, she has been 9-for-12 from the field with five rebounds and 20 points. She's shooting 75% from the field.

On the boards: The Mystics out-rebounded the Sacramento Monarchs on June 26th, 32-24. That's the third straight game the Mystics have out-rebounded an opponent. Against the Detroit Shock on June 24th, the Mystics out-rebounded the Shock, 33-31. The Shock is the best rebounding team in the league, averaging 37.1 rebounds per game. Cheryl Ford leads the Shock with 9.0 rpg but was held to five rebounds against the Mystics. The Mystics also out-rebounded the Phoenix Mercury, 30-29.

Sweet Home... North Carolina?: Four Mystics players have at one time called North Carolina home. Charlotte Smith-Taylor played for the Charlotte Sting for six seasons before signing as a free agent with the Mystics on April 25, 2005. Smith-Taylor played for the University of North Carolina. Another Carolina native is Chasity Melvin. Melvin grew up in Roseboro, North Carolina. Melvin also attended North Carolina State, graduating in 1998. Alana Beard and Kaayla Chones played each other all through college with Beard attending Duke University and Chones at North Carolina State.

The Mystics announced its television schedule for the 2005 season. Five Mystics games will also be carried on Comcast SportsNet. Dei Lynam will do the play-by for Comcast and Washington Wizards center Brendan Haywood will do the Color Analyst. Washington will appear twice on ESPN2 this season.

"They beat New York (on Sunday) so they will have new life and new energy. We really played well in our opening game and I think we took them by surprise. It's an important game for us because it is an Eastern Conference game. We are going to work very hard to get a win."

Alaniacs

For the second year, Washington Mystics guard, Alana Beard will sponsor The Alaniacs. For every home game Beard has purchased enough tickets for 25 young girls' ages 12-16 to sit in a special section called The Alaniacs. All participating groups will receive t-shirts and will be featured on the Jumbotron during the game.

All groups that are interesting in participating in this program should send a letter to the Washington Mystics Community Relations Department explaining why their group deserves the tickets. All letters should be sent to:

Clinic
