Washington Wild Things News Release
WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Washington Wild Things' bats never got going Sunday on a Kids Day at Wild Things Park, as they fell in the finale of the opening homestand of 2019, 9-1.
The Gateway Grizzlies scored two in the second before having their lead cut to one in the fourth by the Wild Things on an RBI groundout by Lucas Herbert, the night's designated hitter.
The Grizzlies added four runs in the fifth in response to that, and would add three in the seventh as well, as they ran away with the 9-1 win to take the series.
Shaine Hughes had his second multi-hit game of the year for the Wild Things, who managed seven hits in the loss. Zach Strecker and Josh Lapiana combined to throw 1.1 scoreless innings.
The Wild Things will now hit the road for a six-game road trip, with a three-game series in Evansville beginning Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. ET.
