
Warthogs lose 4-3 to Wilmington in final game of their three-game series

Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem Warthogs (3-3) took another ealy lead against the Wilmington Blue Rocks (4-2), but were not able to make it stand as they lost the final game of a three-game series 4-3 at Ernie Shore Field on Sunday afternoon. The Warthogs scored first in all three games, but were only able to win one of three against Wilmington, who has won 12 of 16 games against Winston-Salem. The Warthogs jumed on top early by the way of a Sean Smith home run to lead off the game. They added a run in the second inning when Rod Allen Jr. scored an a single by Jose De Los Santos to take a 2-0 lead. The Blue Rocks tied the game on a two-run home run by Scott White in the fourth inning. Winston-Salem took the lead again on a solo home run by Victor Mercedes in the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead. Wilmington rallied again with two runs in the seventh inning off of Warthogs reliever Fernando Hernandez (4-2) to take a 4-3 lead. The Blue Rocks bullpen was able to hold the lead as Wilmington took two of three games against Winston-Salem. The Warthogs out homered the Blue Rocks 8-0 in the three-game series; all Winston-Salem home runs were solo shots. The Warthogs will have a three-day break for the All-Star game and will return to the field on Thursday at 7 PM when they begin a three-game series with the Salem Avalanche.
