Warriors Set for Special Night During Hockey Fights Cancer Game
November 20, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
Mosaic Place will be shaded purple on Saturday night as the Moose Jaw Warriors prepare to host its Hockey Fights Cancer night when the Regina Pats come to town.
In an effort to honour those who have died and those who continue to battle cancer in our community, the Warriors will be wearing special edition purple jerseys for the game.
"I know the team had done [a Hockey Fights Cancer night] a couple of years ago, so this year, our plan is to take it the next level and really elevate things," Jaret Schneider, Warriors' director of business operations, said.
The jerseys will also feature photos of people effected by cancer, which were submitted by fans, on display in the numbers for each player.
"The purple jerseys was an idea thought up by Brady [Shave, Warriors' director of finance] and Hayley [Rushinko, Warriors' manager of game day and special events]," Schneider said. "They're really cool and they're really something that I haven't seen anyone do at this level."
Four of the jerseys to be worn by Warriors captain Daemon Hunt, Denton Mateychuk, Ryder Korczak and Brayden Yager are currently up for auction at the Crushed Can Online Store. There is also Hockey Fights Cancer pucks signed by all four players available to be bid on.
Jerseys for those four and the rest of the team will be also available in a silent auction during Saturday's game against the Pats at Mosaic Place.
In addition to the jerseys, there will 'I Fight For' cards available for people to fill out, purple glow sticks available for purchase and a 'chuck-a-puck' for a team-signed jersey.
"It's all going towards the Saskatchewan branch of the Canadian Cancer Society, which of course stays local here in Moose Jaw and south central Saskatchewan," Schneider said.
After the game, fans are invited on the ice to sign a loved one's name at centre ice.
Tickets for the game remain available at mjwarriors.ca.
Puck drops at 7 p.m.
