November 20, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Regina Pats News Release
Moose Jaw, Sask. - The Regina Pats got a marvellous 42-save performance from Matthew Kieper in their 4-2 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday night at Mosaic Place.
The Pats improve to 7-10-0 on the season and break their three-game slide, while the Warriors fall to 7-10-1.
Tanner Howe increased his point streak to seven games in the win, scoring the game-winning-goal on a power play and adding a primary assist. Logan Nijhoff, Borya Valis and Cole Carrier (empty net) also scored. Stanislav Svozil recorded another pair of assists and now has 11 points on the season.
This was the first game behind the bench for John Paddock since the 2018 Memorial Cup.
The Pats next game is on Tuesday, Nov. 23 against the Medicine Hat Tigers, the first on a four-game road trip through Alberta.
THE GOALS
1st Period
REG 1-0 at 0:54 - Logan Nijhoff (5), assisted by Tanner Howe (5) and Adam McNutt (3) // After an offensive zone face-off win, McNutt banked the puck off the boards and in behind the net, where Howe made goaltender Tetachuk think he was going to wrap it around the far-side post. Instead, Howe peaked back and passed it to Nijhoff on the near side, who had a wide open net to shoot into.
REG 2-0 at 16:22 - Borya Valis (2), assisted by Connor Bedard (5) // Valis helped force a turnover in the neutral zone and left the puck for Bedard, who dangled his way right around Denton Mateychuk before firing one on goal. Carl Tetachuk stopped Bedard with the left pad, but Valis was there to clean up the mess.
2nd Period
MJ 2-1 at 8:34 - Logan Doust (1), assisted by Martin Rysavy // Rysavy helped set up Doust on a perfectly executed 2-on-1, holding onto the puck just long enough to make the Pats defender bite, before feeding a cross-crease pass to Doust to make it 2-1.
3rd Period
MJ 2-2 at 2:22 - Brayden Yager (10), unassisted // Yager came down the right wing on a 2-on-1 rush and finished over the glove on the short side to tie the game.
REG 3-2 at 7:56 - Tanner Howe (7) scores, assisted by Stanislav Svozil and Layton Feist // Hall foun
REG 4-2 at 18:31 - Cole Carrier (5), assisted by Stanislav Svozil (ENG) // Carrier chipped the puck down the boards and outside the defensive zone, and then out-raced everyone to it, shooting it into the empty net to make it a 4-2 game.
