Warriors Return to Home Ice for Rematch with Rebels

Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

Moose Jaw, SK - After a successful weekend in Alberta, the Moose Jaw Warriors are riding a wave of momentum as they return to home ice at the Hangar.

The Warriors will look to extend their four-game winning streak when they host the Red Deer Rebels on Wednesday night at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

"[Last weekend] was huge for us, we want to get a little bit of a roll going here and we're starting to play the same way every night, you strive for consistency in this year, so it's good," Warriors forward Atley Calvert said.

Moose Jaw went into Alberta and scored a 5-2 win in Red Deer last Friday and then topped the Edmonton Oil Kings, 5-1, on Sunday.

Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said it was a strong weekend for the team to try to build off.

"We did a good job in between games resetting as well," he said. "It was an emotional win against Red Deer, it seems every time we play them there's a playoff feel to it, it's scrappy, it's hard, but it was a good win for us and then we turned the page and refocused for another game against Edmonton."

The biggest key to the two wins for Moose Jaw was the scoring depth shown in the two games. Seven different players scored a goal out of the ten goals in the victories.

Calvert said that's key for the team to carry that success over game-to-game.

"The fourth line chipped in a huge goal against Edmonton and it's the little things that gives the team a boost throughout the year and it's always nice when every line is contributing," he said.

Calvert led the charge over the weekend with three goals and five points. The Moose Jaw product is currently riding an eight-game point streak.

"It just comes down to compete," he said. "As long as I'm competing at both ends of the rink, the points and all that jazz will take care of itself and we got four big wins in a row here, so we're looking for three more this week."

The Warriors ended Red Deer's five-game winning streak last Friday. They know the Rebels will be coming in looking to give Moose Jaw a good test in the rematch.

"A big part of their identity is their forecheck and we saw that firsthand, they got us on our heels a little bit early on in that game, but we'll be ready for it now," O'Leary said.

"We need our defencemen to be back for pucks in a hurry and we need our wingers to be a bit harder on the walls. I thought once we did that, we managed their forecheck a little bit better."

The Warriors and Rebels meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
