Published on December 6, 2023 under Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release
For the second consecutive year, the Portland Winterhawks' annual Teddy Bear Toss game will be a sell-out as they take on the Seattle Thunderbirds at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Puck drop is set for 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, with doors opening at a special 4:30 P.M. time to allow fans to get through security with their bears in time for puck drop. Arrive early to Saturday's game!
The Teddy Bear Toss is a popular, holiday season promotion most common at junior and minor league hockey games. Fans are encouraged to bring new teddy bears or other stuffed toys to the game and throw them onto the ice when the Winterhawks score their first goal. It's a celebration unlike any other! All the furry friends are collected and donated as presents to greater Portland-area charities and hospitals ahead of the holidays.
This year, the collected teddy bears will be donated to Les Schwab charities, Portland Fire, Easterseals Oregon, the Salvation Army, Toy & Joy, First Tee, Fire and Rescue, Rockaway Lions Club, Albertina Kerr and others!
Winterhawks fans helped donate over 14,000 teddy bears this season while selling out the VMC! That's the second-most bears ever collected in our 24 years of running this game night. Bravo, Portland!
