Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
When you're a defenseman that regularly matches up against the other team's top players, job one is to keep the puck out of your own net. If you pitch in any offense of your own, that's a nice bonus.
The Brandon Wheat Kings got a lot of nice bonuses from Quinn Mantei in the month of November. The 2005-born defenseman not only tied for the team lead in scoring with nine points in 11 games, he did so while facing the top players every night.
Originally a first round pick of the Wheat Kings in 2020, Mantei has grown by leaps and bounds in the years since. This season, he's on pace to set a new career high in points, as he leads all Wheat Kings blueliners with 19 points in 27 games, all while playing top minutes on the power play and penalty kill.
"You like everything about the way he carries himself and the way he cares," said head coach and GM Marty Murray. "He cares about being a Brandon Wheat King and he cares about the logo on the front. That's the thing that jumps out for me. He's just a really solid, all around defenseman."
During November, Mantei had the best offensive outing of his career against the Regina Pats on November 11, when he picked up 4 assists in the Wheat Kings' win. He also played his 150th game in the WHL, all as a member of the Wheat Kings.
"It's crazy to think this is already my third year in the league," Mantei said. "To have this many games under my belt is a pretty cool accomplishment, and to do it with this group of guys and this team is awesome."
Though they spent a great deal of time on the road in November, the Wheat Kings will spend the vast majority of December on home ice. They're already out to a strong start to their homestand with wins over Regina and Red Deer. You can pick up tickets for the remaining home games of the month HERE.
