Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

Moose Jaw, SK - The Moose Jaw Warriors return to the Hangar, riding high after sweeping a two-game road trip to Alberta last weekend.

"Since Christmas, we've been playing good at the Hangar... it's getting down to crunch time of the season too, so every point matters down the stretch and it's important to get confidence [on the road] last weekend," Warriors forward Jagger Firkus said.

After finding success on the road, the Warriors are back on home ice to battle the Brandon Wheat Kings on Thursday night at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said the team played two hard fought games last weekend to extend their winning streak to five games.

"I was most proud of the way we bounced back after an eventful, spirited fight against Red Deer to turn around and have to play again at two o'clock, I thought we did a pretty good job," he said.

The Warriors have been the hottest team in the Western Hockey League in the second half, posting a 15-2-0-0 record since returning from the Christmas break.

Over that stretch, the Warriors have climbed into third place in the Eastern Conference.

O'Leary said the Warriors are playing playoff hockey already and he's happy to see that.

"There's highs and there's lows and it's just about staying even keel and concentrating on what we can control and that's how we're playing and the intensity and details that we play with," he said.

On Thursday, the Warriors close out their season series with the Wheat Kings, who finished last weekend with a 7-3 loss in Prince Albert.

So far this season, Moose Jaw has a 3-2-0-1 record against Brandon, including a 4-3 win in Brandon in their last meeting on Dec. 16, 2023.

Firkus said the Warriors' start is going to be key against the Wheat Kings.

"Lears says it a lot, in the first ten minutes of the game, we can't lose it, but we can win it," he said. "A lot of our best games of the season are when we can start off with a good pace."

The Warriors and Wheat Kings meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday night in Downtown Moose Jaw.
