Warriors Fall in Overtime on Tuesday

For the second time this season, the Moose Jaw Warriors and Regina Pats went to overtime, except this time, the Warriors came up on the wrong end of the score as they lost 3-2 Tuesday at the Subway WHL Hub in Regina.

Throughout the first period, the teams established and maintained a quick pace as they race up and down the ice.

Moose Jaw's forecheck was aggressive inside the Pats zone and in the neutral zone, which led to several scoring chances on the Regina net.

Regina on the other hand used their transition game to come up the ice with speed and attack the Moose Jaw net off the rush.  They also had three power-play chances in the period, but the Warriors penalty kill was up to the task and kept the game scoreless.

The fast pace continued in the second period as the Warriors continued to generate opportunities through hard work on their forecheck, while Regina generated more chances off the rush.

At 10:29, the Warriors went to make a pass coming out of their zone.  Unfortunately, the pass was behind the intended receiver and it went off their skate and right to Connor Bedard who scored off the turnover to give Regina a 1-0 lead.

The action continued in the third period as the teams continued to exchange scoring opportunities.

Two minutes into the third period, Eric Alarie fought the puck away from the Pats behind their net.  As he skated towards the right corner, he was able to connect with Brayden Yager between the circles where he hammered in his third of the season.

Moose Jaw took the lead at 11:32 when Tate Popple set up Eric Alarie for his team-leading seventh goal.  However, it was short-lived, Regina was able to tie the game just over a minute later a goal from Layton Feist.

As the third period winded down, both teams continued to generate quality opportunities.  That action continued in the overtime period as they fought for a game-winner.

Inside the final minute of the extra period, the Warriors drove up the ice and developed a quality chance for 16-year-old Jagger Firkus.

Pats goalie Roddy Ross made the save, and then on the rebound, Regina charged up the ice and finished the rush with another goal from Layton Feist to end the game.

Eric Alarie led the Warriors with a goal and two points while rookie goalie Brett Mirwald made 38 saves.

Moose Jaw has Wednesday off to prepare for a pair of games coming up later in the week.  They open their April schedule Thursday against Swift Current (4:00 pm) and then Friday they take on Saskatoon (8:00 pm).
