Warriors Come up Short in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors fell to the Bakersfield Jam 100-97 Sunday evening, dropping the second game of the weekend series to their West Division rival.

The Warriors were again paced by Cameron Jones, who scored a game-high 25 points. Dewayne Dedmon recorded a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 17 rebounds, setting a new Santa Cruz all-time record with eight offensive boards. Nemanja Nedovic, currently on assignment from the Golden State Warriors, scored 18 points, while Ognjen Kuzmic, also on assignment from Golden State, grabbed nine rebounds.

All five Bakersfield starters scored in double figures. The Jam were led by James Nunnally, who scored 24 points. Aaron Johnson logged a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 12 assists, while Ike Diogu scored 20 points and pulled down 12 boards.

There were 13 lead changes in the game. Bakersfield led by as much as 11 midway through the second quarter, but the Warriors went on a 19-9 run to close the half and trail by one. Santa Cruz held a nine-point advantage over the Jam with 5:49 left in the game, but an Ike Diogu three-pointer tied it up at 95 with 1:49 remaining. Brian Butch and James Nunnally combined for five straight points for the Jam in the final 81 seconds, and Bakersfield held on for the three-point victory.

Santa Cruz shot a season-low 38.2% from the floor, compared to Bakersfield's 47.4%. Santa Cruz won the battle of the boards (53-48), scored more points in the paint (46-44) and committed an all-time low 10 turnovers. Bakersfield held the slight edge on assists (21-20).
