Warriors and Pats Swap Forwards

Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

The Moose Jaw Warriors were able to get a player that fits into their age group that they are looking to build around in a one-for-one trade with their Trans-Canada rivals on Monday.

Moose Jaw added 18-year-old forward Garrett Wright in exchange for 19-year-old forward Carson Denomie.

General Manager Alan Millar is pleased with the addition that they were able to make in the deal.

"We like his upside, we always have, through his time in Arizona and early on with the Pats last year as a 17-year-old," Millar said.

"I just spoke with him, he seems very excited, he seems like a good young guy, he's excited about a new opportunity and we're looking forward to getting him here."

Wright brings seven career goals and 18 points in 80 career games with the Pats. He has seven assists in 17 games this season.

Prior to joining Regina, he picked up 17 goals and 29 points in 32 games with the Anaheim Jr. Ducks 16U team during the 2017-18 season.

"As an 18-year-old, in this deal we get a younger player, we think he fits in well with what we're building, he's got good size, solid player, we like his potential, he can really shoot the puck and he's a really good fit for our hockey club," Millar said.

The Warriors deal away Carson Denomie, who came to Moose Jaw in a trade last season with the Kamloops Blazers. Moose Jaw sent a seventh-round pick in this past year's draft to Kamloops in the deal.

Denomie had 12 goals and 26 points in 50 games with the Warriors. He has 19 goals and 49 points in 152 career games in the Western Hockey League.

"Carson's a good kid, he got a fresh start here a year ago, did a good job for us and he gets to go to his hometown - he played Pat Canadians, he grew up there - I hope it's exciting for him to play in Regina," Millar said.

The trade marked the first time since the 2015 offseason that the two rivals have made a trade.

The only two other trades between the two teams this decade saw Moose Jaw add a 2011 second-round pick and a 2013 fifth-round selection in dealing Thomas Frazee and a pair of picks to the Pats and the Warriors traded Carter Hansen to Regina in exchange for Jack Rodewald and a conditional sixth-round pick in 2013

"There hasn't been a lot of trades between the Pats and us, but this one works for both clubs and works for both players," Millar said.

"Both the Pats and us are looking at different ways to improve our team, both now and in the future, but both teams are looking to stay as competitive as they can in a transition year for both teams."

The Warriors will return to the ice on Friday when they travel to Medicine Hat to take on the Tigers.
