Tri-City Storm News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - After falling behind early, Tri-City Storm (4-6-1) got a third period game winning goal from Trevor Moore to help defeat the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (5-3-2) 2-1 at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena Friday night.
The only puck to get by Storm goaltender Johan Mattsson came at 3:58 of the first period when Landon Smith scored on the power play. Mattsson finished the game with 24 saves and picked up his fourth win of the season.
Tri-City evened the game early in the second period when captain Brian Ward scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season on a shorthanded breakaway. Ward stole a puck near his own blue line and took it the distance, beating Cedar Rapids' goaltender Chad Catt with a wrist shot that tied the game, 1-1. The goal was Ward's second shorthanded goal in three games, as he pulled off the same feat on Oct. 26 in Omaha.
The game was still tied at the start of the third period until forward Trevor Moore finished off a perfect setup, scoring his ____ goal of the season. Brian Ward started the play by bringing the puck into the zone and stopping once he got over the blue line. He then found Trevor Mingoia down low who moved the puck to Moore right in front of the net. Moore had lots of space with Catt out of position and put home the game-winner.
With the first assist, Mingoia picked up his first point in his third game with the Storm.
Tri-City will now head to Sioux City for a Saturday night tilt with the Musketeers. The game is scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m.
The Storm's next home game will be against Sioux Falls on November 9 at the Viaero Event Center.
