Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release

WINNIPEG, MB - For the second time this season, Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive lineman Gavin Walls has been saluted for his work in the trenches.

The 6-2, 235-pound rookie defensive end has been chosen the Rogers CFL Lineman of the Week for Week 13 of the 2005 CFL season.

Walls, 25, had a night to remember against the Ottawa Renegades at Frank Clair Stadium last Friday night. He scored his first of two TDs on the night with a 10-yard interception return of a Kerry Joseph pass early in the first quarter. He returned a Joseph fumble 79 yards for his second TD late in the fourth quarter to seal the Bombers' 37-21 win.

The soft-spoken D-lineman also collected 2 tackles and 1 pass knockdown against the ‘Gades.

This is the second time this season Walls has been similarly honoured. He was the Rogers CFL Lineman of the Week for his Week 4 effort against the Edmonton Eskimos. The lightning-quick rookie had three quarterback sacks and two tackles against the Esks.

To date this season Walls has 6 sacks, 30 individual tackles, four passes knocked down, an interception, a fumble recovery and two touchdowns. These stats make a good case for Walls as a contender for Rookie of the Year.
