Ottawa Renegades News Release

OTTAWA - Over $15,000 was raised for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts over the past two weeks at the last pair of Renegades home games.

Fans attending the Sept. 8 contest against the B.C. Lions, and then the rain-washed Sept. 16 game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers combined to raise $15,545 for the Canadian Red Cross. The Renegades offered their ‘Mardi Gras' beads in exchange for a donation of at least a toonie and supporters of the club responded.

"We are grateful that our fans were so generous for what is a very important cause," said Renegades president Lonie Glieberman. "It is important to help those in need who have been affected by this disaster. The hurricane hit close to home for some of the members of the Renegades family and we are happy that the Red Cross will be able to have additional funds to help the hundreds of thousands of people affected by the tragedy re-build their lives."

Only a few thousand bead necklaces remain and the Renegades are donating them to various community organizations that are duplicating the same idea that the football club has had this month.

Ottawa returns to action on Thursday, September 22 for a Week 13 road affair against the Calgary Stampeders (10 p.m. Eastern time) at McMahon Stadium. The Renegades are back home on Friday, Oct. 7 when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Tickets to the Thanksgiving weekend game are available either at the Renegades ticket office (1015 Bank Street), on the Internet (http://www.capitaltickets.ca), by phone (613.599.3267 or 877.788.3267), any Sports Experts location in the Ottawa and Gatineau regions as well as the Corel Centre Box Office in Kanata.
