April 1, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - In the fifth of five head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel were defeated by the Toledo Walleye on Wednesday in a shootout at Indiana Farmers Coliseum by a final score of 3-2. With the shootout loss, the Fuel improved to 27-29-4-6 overall this season and with 64 points, remain alone in sixth place in the ECHL's North Division standings, just four point shy of playoff position.
The Walleye gathered the first period's lone goal at 9:12 when Tyler Barnes stashed home his 28th of the season from Shane Berschbach and Troy Schwab to make it 1-0 Toledo. In the second, the Fuel's Kyle Stroh tied the game at 11:06 on a power-play crank from the left circle thanks to a strong setup from Nick Jones and Justin Holl.
In the third, the Walleye grabbed a 2-1 lead at 4:44 when Schwab banked a go-ahead score off Indy goaltender Mac Carruth, but a resilient Chris DeSousa marker at 15:47, an extra-man tally assisted by Nick Bruneteau and Matt White, tied things at two apiece and forced overtime.
After a scoreless extra session, Toledo received shootout conversions from Schwab, Barnes and Kyle Bonis while Toledo net-minder Jeff Lerg stopped all three Fuel shooters to claim a 3-2 win for the Walleye. Lerg registered the victory thanks to a 25 save performance while Carruth finished with 25 stops in defeat.
