Evansville IceMen News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind.- In an April Fool's Day showdown, the Evansville IceMen could not take two points away from the Fort Wayne Komets, who closed out the season series between the two rivals with a 4-1 win. The IceMen outshot the Komets, but could not score in the final 40 minutes.

Midway through the opening period, Fort Wayne found the back of the net. A Christian Ouellet shot trickled past Alex Vazzano and in to give the Komets a 1-0 lead.

Less than three minutes later, the IceMen knotted it up. The puck bounced off the boards to Joe Zarbo. The rookie rocketed a slap shot into the back of the net to tie the game at one. Zarbo's unassisted tally was his second goal and fourth point in four games with the IceMen.

The Komets reclaimed the lead in the second period. CJ Severyn tipped in a feed from Ouellet to put Fort Wayne ahead 2-1 entering the third stanza.

In the final frame the Komets got a pair of goals from Shawn Szydlowski to push their lead to three. The IceMen fired 34 shots at the Komet net, but Roman Will made 33 saves to give the Komets a 4-1 win. Vazzano made 29 saves on 33 shots as the IceMen outshot the Komets, but could not get Vazzano his first pro win.

The IceMen continue their six-game road trip to end the season with their first trip this year to Wheeling to take on the Nailers, Friday night at 6:35 p.m. central time. Catch that game live at Bar Louie, the official watch party destination of the Evansville IceMen.
