Kalamazoo's Martin Named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Joel Martin of the Kalamazoo Wings is the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for March 23-29. It is the third time this season that he was won the weekly honor, and the sixth time in his career, tying him for the second most in league history.

Martin went 2-0-0 with a 0.97 goals-against average and a save percentage of .974 in two appearances last week.

The 32-year-old made 30 saves in a 2-1 overtime win at Colorado on Friday and stopped 46 shots in a 2-1 victory over the Eagles on Saturday.

A native of Three Hills, Alberta, Martin has appeared in a league-high 53 games this season with a record of 28-12-4, three shutouts, a 2.86 goals-against average and a save percentage of .911. He leads the league in both minutes played (3,039) and saves (1,479).

Martin has appeared in 238 career ECHL games with Columbus, Trenton, Elmira, Augusta and Kalamazoo posting an overall record of 121-87-22 with nine shutouts, a 2.95 goals-against average and a save percentage of .909. During the 2012-13 season, he set an ECHL record by playing 3,739 minutes while his 63 games played and 2,051 saves are second all-time in a single season in league history.

He has also seen action in 22 career games in the American Hockey League with Cleveland, Norfolk, Syracuse and Bridgeport.
