Chad Wallach homered and drove in four runs and Trevor Richards and Jacob Turner combined on a 5-0 shutout of the Omaha Storm Chasers as the New Orleans Baby Cakes claimed the opener of a four-game set on Saturday night.

Richards (2-0) held the Storm Chasers to three hits in six innings to lower his ERA to 1.77 through three starts. Richards struck out seven and walked two and completed the Baby Cakes' 11th quality start in the last 13 games.

Turner took over in the seventh and kept Omaha off the board despite surrendering three hits in the eighth. With runners at first and second and one out, JT Riddle made one of several outstanding defensive plays by fielding a Ramon Torres grounder and tagging out Humberto Arteaga in a foot race to third. Hunter Dozier followed with a single up the middle, but Magneuris Sierra threw out Billy Burns at the plate to preserve the shutout.

All the offense the Baby Cakes needed came early on, as Riddle led off the second inning with a single and stole second base, then scored on a two-out single by Rafael Ortega.

Riddle sparked a 'Cakes rally with another leadoff single in the fourth, and after Austin Dean walked, Wallach blasted his first home run of the season over the left field fence for a 4-0 advantage.

Wallach added a sacrifice fly in the eighth to once again score Riddle, who had walked. The four RBI equaled Wallach's career high.

The Baby Cakes won for the 10th time in the last 13 games, and improved to 11-5 at home.

The teams continue the series on Sunday afternoon with a Mother's Day matinee starting at 1 p.m.
