Then on April 16-17, the Round Rock Express host the American Cancer Society's annual Relay for Life walk at The Dell Diamond. Registration and check-in begins Saturday, April 16 at 3:00 â 4:30 PM.
The event began in Round Rock at Hopewell Middle School in 1999 with 23 teams which raised $48,000. In 2000, Relay for Life moved to The Dell Diamond and raised $93,000 with 58 teams. The 2001 event had over 100 teams and raised $150,000. The 2002 event set a record in Texas with over 150 teams and raised $225,000. Last year, the event netted $213,000 for the American Cancer Society.
Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research, advocacy, education and patient services programs of the American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's signature activity. It unites millions of people in thousands of communities nationwide each year to raise money to help prevent cancer, save lives, and diminish suffering from the disease. Every dollar you raise makes a difference to people whose lives are touched by cancer.
