Reading Fightin Phils News Release

Reading, PA -- The Trenton Thunder stomped off with a 9-3 victory Saturday night over a Phillies team that took bases on balls and deep counts to a new level.

Phillies pitchers walked nine batters -- four of them scored -- and threw an incredible 216 pitches -- just 119 for strikes. Throw in 15 base hits and, well, this one turned into a marathon affair -- 3 hours and 33 minutes.

Left-hander Josh Outman, the No. 6 prospect in the Philadelphia organization, made his Double-A debut, and he had mixed results. He showed a live arm in the 94-95 mph range, but he lacked command from the third inning until he left with two out in the fifth after walking the bases loaded. He allowed four runs on four hits, walked six and struck out four. He threw a whopping 114 pitches, 62 for strikes.

Ryan Cameron followed and had P.J. Pilittere down in the count after two pitches. Then, with the count full, the Trenton catcher singled to left for two runs and a 4-3 lead that would only grow. Pilittere was 3-for-5 with three RBIs, one of six Thunder batters with a multiple-hit game.

The Phillies (54-53) had taken a one-run lead after three innings on a solo homer by Greg Jacobs, his 18th; an RBI triple by Greg Golson; and Jason Hill's infield single that scored Golson.

The victory went to Jeff Marquez (11-6), who worked seven solid innings. The Thunder, who ended a five-game losing streak, improved to 64-41.

PHILLERS: With a third-inning RBI single, Jason Hill extended his hitting streak to seven games. . . . With a fifth-inning infield hit, Michael Spidale upped his streak to nine games. . . . When the Phillies scored back-to-back double-digit runs against Trenton the previous two games, it was the first time they achieved the feat since April 26-27, 2005, against New Britain. . . . With a second-inning single, Joey Hammond moved within two hits of 1,000. . . . The bottom four batters in the Trenton lineup were a combined 10-for-18 with eight RBIs. . . . Thirteen of Trenton's 15 hits were singles.
