Thunder Snap Losing Skid With 9-3 Win

(Reading, PA)- C P.J. Pilittere and 2B Gabe Lopez had three hits and three RBI apiece to lead the Trenton Thunder to a 9-3 win over Reading on Saturday night. The win snapped a five-game losing streak for Trenton.

Pilittere produced the go-ahead RBI's in the 5th Inning. After Reading starter Josh Outman loaded the bases, Pilittere singled home two runs against reliever Ryan Cameron for a 4-3 lead. Outman (0-1) hurt himself with six walks in 4 2/3 innings. He allowed four runs on four hits with four strikeouts. Lopez then added an RBI single in the 7th Inning for a 5-3 lead. Trenton (64-41) then added four runs in the 8th Inning to break the game open. 1B Cody Ehlers and Pilittere each had a run-scoring single with Lopez adding a two-run double later in the inning.

Thunder starter Jeff Marquez worked seven innings for the victory. Marquez (11-6), now tied for the Eastern League lead in wins, allowed three runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Trenton took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd Inning on a solo homer by Ehlers. Reading (54-53) countered in the bottom half with a solo homer from Greg Jacobs, his 18th of the year, to tie the game. After Trenton scored int he top of the third, Reading took a 3-2 lead in the bottom half with a pair of runs.

Trenton and Reading wrap up their series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 PM. Jason Jones (8-5, 2.42) starts for the Thunder against Reading's Carlos Carrasco (3-1, 4.81).

- The bottom four hitters in the order (Ehlers, Pilittere, 3B Carlos Mendoza and Lopez) were a combined 10-for-18 at the plate with a home run and eight RBI.

- Trenton now has a 16-2 record in games played on Saturday this season, including a 9-1 record on the road.
