July 28, 2007 - Eastern League (EL1)
Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
Jamar Hill had four hits and two RBI, but the Bowie Baysox scored 10 times in the ninth inning for a come-from-behind 11-7 win over the Binghamton Mets at NYSEG Stadium Saturday. The loss is Binghamton's third in a row. Bowie's won eight straight.
Hill put the B-Mets (45-60) ahead with a solo homer off Rosman Garcia in the second before Matt Cepicky's leadoff homer off Jose Sanchez in the fourth tied the score. Cepicky's homer was the only run Sanchez would allow over 6 2/3 innings.
Binghamton batted around in the sixth to reclaim the lead. Mike Carp walked before Vince Harrison and Brett Harper singled to load the bases with no outs. Caleb Stewart followed with a two-run single that scored Carp and Harrison and chased Garcia. Hill then singled off reliever Felix Romero to re-load the bases. Three batters later, Miguel Negron cleared them with a three-run double that put the B-Mets on top 7-1.
Lino Urdaneta couldn't retire any of the five Bowie (55-52) hitters he faced in the ninth, allowing the tying run to come to the plate before departing. B-Mets closer Carlos Muñiz then gave up back-to-back two-run doubles to Luis Jimenez and Brandon Sing, which tied the game 7-7. Sing would later score the go-ahead run on an error. Three more runs came across before Muñiz (2-3) departed.
Bowie, whose first 10 batters reached base in the ninth, sent 16 men to the plate in the frame thanks to nine hits and two walks. Two other batters reached on errors.
David Haehnel (2-0) tossed two scoreless innings for the win.
Sunday, the Binghamton Mets play the final game of their four-game series against the Bowie Baysox. Kevin Mulvey (8-9, 3.30) will start for the B-Mets against Radhames Liz (9-4, 3.34) of Bowie. Game time is 1:05 from NYSEG Stadium with the radio broadcast starting at 12:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
Notes: Harper picked up his seventh straight multi-hit game...the 10-run ninth is the biggest inning allowed by the B-Mets since they gave up 11 runs in the seventh inning 7/29/05 vs. AKR...Jose Sanchez has left with a lead but gotten a no-decision five times this season...the bullpen hadn't allowed a run in 13 1/3 innings before the ninth...Muñiz hadn't allowed a run in his last 11 appearances before Saturday.
