Walker Picks Up Season Top Pitcher Honors
September 9, 2009 - Northern League (NL)
Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
He was a Northern League Pitcher of the Week this year as well as a Northern League Pitcher of the Month. Now he's the Northern League Pitcher of the Year.
Continuing a week that has seen the Goldeyes pick up numerous post-season honours, starter Ace Walker was saluted today as the best at what he does, rather appropriate for a guy that led the league in wins and complete games and was second in earned run average.
In his second season with Winnipeg, Walker went 12-6 with six complete games and a 3.32 ERA. His six complete games broke Joey Cramblitt's club record of five from 2003 while his 149 innings pitched equalled Roger Luque's club record from 2004.
A member of the Great Plains squad at the 2009 NL All-Star Game in Joliet, Walker is the second Goldeyes hurler to earn NL Pitcher of the Year honours and the first since Rafael Gross won it in 2003. In two seasons with Winnipeg, he is 21-10 with a 3.83 ERA.
