
RedHawks Grab Game Two, Even Series

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks rebounded from an opening-game defeat to even the Northern League Finals best-of-5 series to a game a piece with a 9-5 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats Wednesday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
The RedHawks drew first blood in game-two. DH Donzell McDonald cracked a seeing-eye single, nabbed second and was singled home by 3B Jeremiah Piepkorn. With men at the corners, CF Nic Jackson pushed Penprase home and the RedHawks benefited from a defensive miscue for a 3-0 first-inning lead.
RailCats 1B Jeff Beachum legged out a leadoff double and 3B Mike Rohde singled him home to get the RailCats on the board. LF Mike Massaro mopped-up with a RBI triple to tie it at three-all in the second.
RedHawks 2B Carlo Cota hit a left-field flare and reached second on a sac bunt by LF Justin Justice. With Cota in scoring position, McDonald lifted a ball over RailCats 2B Eric McNamee to score the go-ahead run and give the RedHawks a 4-3 lead.
Jackson got jammed on a 1-1 offering, but was able to fist it to center for a leadoff single. Jackson reached third on a wild pitch and was singled home by 1B Ruben Salazar to make it 5-3. The RedHawks benefited from a wild pitch and a throwing error and doubled their lead to 6-3. In the sixth, Penprase hit a solo homerun into the right-field shrubbery to pad the lead 7-4.
In the seventh, the RailCats crept within two. Massaro led off with a seeing-eye-single and McNamee homered off the top of the homerun fence to make it 7-5. In the RedHawks at-bats, Coles drew a leadoff walk, stole second and scored on a well-struck ball by C Alan Rick. Justice doubled Rick home to cap the scoring at 9-5.
RedHawks LHP Jeremy Hauer pitched 4.2 innings, gave-up two runs (all earned) and fanned four for his second post-season win. RHP Tim Lavigne pitched 3.0 innings of scoreless ball for his second post-season save.
After an off-day tomorrow the RedHawks open the second half of the series against the RailCats Friday at U.S. Steel Yard. LHP Broc Coffman will toe the rubber for the RedHawks and LHP Tony Cogan will get the ball for the RailCats.
