Walker, Goldeyes Snap Seven-game Skid Against Redhawks

FARGO, ND - The Winnipeg Goldeyes snapped a seven-game losing streak, beating the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 8-5 on Saturday evening at Newman Outdoor Field.

The Goldeyes (26-26) jumped on RedHawks starter T.J. Stanton (2-3) early, scoring six runs in the second inning. Center fielder Aharon Eggleston struck the big blow, smacking a bases-loaded double to plate three. Luis Alen and Vince Harrison also had RBI singles in the frame.

Winnipeg tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth. Harrison came to bat with the bases loaded after two walks and a hit batter. He singled to right, scoring two and giving the Goldeyes an 8-3 lead.

Fargo-Moorhead (30-18) attempted to rally in the bottom of the ninth, scoring twice on Jesse Hoorelbeke's league-leading 17th home run of the season. Alan Rick followed with a double deep to right field, but Winnipeg reliever Drew Shetrone was able to retire Carlo Cota and Jay Cox to preserve the victory.

Goldeyes starter Ace Walker (4-2) tossed 5.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) while scattering eight hits. He struck out five and did not allow a walk.

Stanton only made it through 1.2 innings before being given the hook. Of the six runs he gave up, five were earned. He allowed five hits while striking out two and walking two.

Eggleston and Harrison each collected a pair of hits and drove in three runs for Winnipeg. Former RedHawk Justin Justice was also 2-for-3 for the Goldeyes.

Zach Penprase, Nic Jackson and Hoorelbeke all had two hits apiece for Fargo-Moorhead, with Hoorelbeke recording three RBI.

The two teams will play the rubber game of their weekend series tomorrow afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field starting at 1:00pm. Southpaw Scott Fogelson will get the start for Fargo-Moorhead. Winnipeg has not announced a starter.
