LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks have added two pitchers.
Rockford's only professional baseball team announced on Saturday that it has signed right-handers Luis Carreras and Cauri Benz. The RiverHawks made room with the releases of pitchers Brandon Todd and Chuck Lukanen.
Carreras, a former Minnesota farmhand, lasted pitched professionally in 2007. He went 5-4 with a 5.97 ERA in 27 appearances with the Brockton Rox of the independent Can-Am League. His career strikeout-to-walk ratio is 2-to-1.
Benz is a true rookie out of Long Island University. He was 2-10 with a 7.42 ERA with the Blackbirds last year. He struck out 55 and walked 26 in 74 innings.
Todd was 0-4 with an 8.17 ERA in 21 appearances. Lukanen was 0-1 with a 4.16 EA in eight games.
The RiverHawks are members of the Northern League, an eight-team independent professional baseball league in its 18th season.
