LOVES PARK, Ill. - A sellout crowd at Road Ranger Stadium got a bonus promotion on Friday - Crooked Number Night.

The Lake County Fielders pounded five home runs, two by Adam Hale, to beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 18-12. Josh Short hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the fifth inning to put the Fielders in front for good. Amos Ramon hit a grand slam and Brian McFall also homered for the Fielders, in front of 3,383.

Evan McArthur hit a pinch-homer during the RiverHawks' eight-run fourth inning. For their part, the Fielders had three four-run innings and a six-run seventh inning to pull away.

Ramon hit a grand slam in the second and Hale homered during a four-run fourth inning to give the Fielders an 8-2 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, a bases-loaded walk by Jake Eigsti and a two-run double by Jason James drove Zach Ward from the mound before the Lake County starter recorded an out. Matt Schweitzer relieved and later gave up McArthur's three-run homer just inside the foul pole in right field.

McArthur, who gave Rockford a 10-8 lead, is the second RiverHawk in the team's nine-year history to pinch-hit a home run. Robert Sabates performed the feat against Gateway on June 30, 2008.

John Wagle had two hits - a leadoff single and a one-out triple - in the 12-batter fourth inning and was 4-for-5.

Schweitzer (1-2) ended up with the win after Lake County rallied for four more runs in the fifth. Rockford reliever Chuck Lukanen gave up back-to-back singles to start the fifth, threw away a sacrifice attempt to bring in a run and got an out on a run-scoring force play. With two outs, Short homered to left-center off Lukanen. Short's 14th homer of the year gave Lake County a 12-10 advantage.

The series continues at 6:05 p.m. Saturday. Gerber Collision & Glass and WIFR sponsor RiverHawks Baseball Cap Night. It's also Roxy Carmichael Ladies Night.
