Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Schaumburg, IL - Pitching was the story at Alexian Field on Saturday night as the Gary Southshore RailCats (24-27) defeated the Flyers (20-32) 1-0.

The RailCats picked up the one run of the contest quickly. The game's leadoff batter Adam Klein tripled down the first base line and was quickly brought in as Chris Carrara chopped an infield singled to the left side to pick up the RBI.

It took the the RailCats four pitchers to toss a seven hit shutout. Starter Nolan Nicholson (2-2) tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just four hits while striking out four. Zeb Engle and Aaron Cook combined for three innings of three hit relief. Finally, RailCats closer Andy Shipman came in the to pick his league leading twelfth save with a perfect ninth.

Flyers starter Ryan Gehring (3-4) pitched a gem after his rough first inning. Yet it wasn't enough, as the Flyers lineup was unable to pick up a run off the RailCats pitching foursome. Gehring pitched eight innings, allowed seven hits, struck out eight and gave up just the one run.

The Flyers and RailCats will play the rubber match of the series tomorrow afternoon at Alexian Field. It's Family Fun Day at the ballpark, which means kids get to run the bases and meet their favorite Flyers for autographs after the game!

The game is scheduled for a 1:20 first pitch. Join Alex Perlman on 1410 WRMN and flyersbaseball.com for all the action as the Flyers take on the RailCats. The Schaumburg Flyers Pregame Show gets rolling at 1:10 PM with the game to follow.
