Portland Beavers News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Portland could only muster five hits off of Colorado Springs starting pitcher Kevin Walker, who went the distance as the Sky Sox defeated the Beavers 6-2 Saturday night. Clint Barmes was 4-for-5 and Jayson Nix went 2-for-4 with a grand slam as the Sky Sox (43-36) snap their two game losing streak.

Tim Stauffer takes the loss for the Beavers (37-45) after throwing six innings, giving up six runs on 10 hits.

Colorado Springs got out to and early lead when Alexis Gomez hit an RBI double off Stauffer in the second inning scoring Edwin Bellorin from first base.

After consecutive hits by Royce Huffman and Brian Myrow, Paul McAnulty hit a two RBI single to give the Beavers a 2-1 advantage in the top of the fifth inning.

Stauffer looked strong through five innings before getting into trouble in the sixth. After Ian Stewart singled and consecutive free passes to Sean Barker and Edwin Bellorin loaded the bases, Nix hammered a Stauffer fastball over the left field fence to give the Sky Sox a 5-2 advantage.

Barmes led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a triple and later scored on a sacrifice from Barker, adding to the Sky Sox lead.

Portland will continue its series with Colorado Springs Sunday with a double-header; the first game starts at 12:05 p.m.
