PENSACOLA, Fla. - Kyle Waldrop has been named the Southern League's Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, August 24 according to Minor League Baseball. The Wahoos outfielder led the league at the plate as he hit .533 (16-for-33) with two home runs, three doubles and a triple on his way to slugging .900 during the span.

"I'm really happy for Kyle," said Blue Wahoos hitting coach Alex Pelaez. "It's been fun to see the progress that he's made with us here in Pensacola and he continues to work hard to get better."

Waldrop, 22, is currently riding a seven-game hitting streak. Over these seven games, all but one have been multi-hit contests. He has raised his average 38 points over the week to raise his season average to .310. His average is tops on the team and his 32 RBI leads the team since the All-Star break. On Sunday night, Waldrop finished just a home run shy of the cycle while going 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI and runs scored to help the Wahoos to a 9-4 win over the Montgomery Biscuits.

The left-handed hitting Waldrop was part of a mid-season roster overhaul at the All-Star break when he joined the Blue Wahoos from High-A Bakersfield. He was leading the California League with a .359 average and among the league leaders in doubles with 20 at the time of his promotion.

The Ft. Myers, Fla. native joined the Reds organization as a 12th round draft pick out of Riverdale High School (Ft. Myers) in 2010. Waldrop is the first player this season to receive weekly league honors.
