Jackson Generals News Release

JACKSON, TENN. (AUGUST 25, 2014) - D.J. Peterson (1x3, 2 RBI, BB) may have produced the biggest hit of the season as his two-run, go ahead single in the seventh helped to rally the Generals (29-35/60-73) past Chattanooga (30-32/56-74) 2-1 on Monday night. Jackson won their second straight to even the series, with Chattanooga and picked up another game in the division and sit three games out with six games to go.

The game's first run and only run for a long time was scored in the first inning as Scott Schebler hit a two-out solo home run for the early 1-0 Chattanooga lead. After that, starter Stephen Landazuri (6-5, 3.94) settled into a nice groove.

Landazuri used a pick off, a double play and his catcher Tyler Marlette (1x4, R) caught two runners stealing to help hold the Lookouts scoreless for the remainder of the game. In 6.1 innings of work, Landazuri walked five batters, but he also struck out five and allowed only one run on five hits.

His counterpart, 28-year-old Steve Smith (2-2, 3.26) was equally as good as he matched Landazuri with 6.1 innings and allowed two runs on four hits. He held Jackson scoreless until he left the game with the bases loaded and Dario Pizzano (1x3, 3B) coming to the plate.

Pizzano struck out and left the bases loaded for Peterson who came up with what may prove to be the biggest hit of the Generals season. The second pitch he saw from reliever Daniel Coulombe he smashed into center field and brought home Marlette and Patrick Brady (0x2, R, BB) as the tying and go ahead runs for the 2-1 lead after seven innings.

Jackson went back to their bullpen as Kyle Hunter (4-3, 3.44), who relieved Landazuri, earned the win with a scoreless 1.2 innings in which he walked only one. Mayckol Guaipe (1-3, 12 SV, 2.33) came in for his second save in as many days. He made everyone in the ballpark nervous as he allowed a runner to reach third base, but a little help from his defense allowed him to pick up his 12th save of the season and another Generals win. Smith took the loss for Chattanooga and fell to .500. 2-2 on the year.

The Generals will look to win another series Tuesday, with the rubber match against the Lookouts as they play their final home game of the regular season. The 2014 series is also tied at 7-7. Victor Sanchez (7-5, 3.78) will make the start for Jackson as Chattanooga will send Jeremy Kehrt (1-0, 2.25) to the mound. The game will begin at 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
