Biloxi Shuckers News Release
PENSACOLA, FL - The Biloxi Shuckers (22-22) took an early lead but ultimately lost 5-4 in 10 innings to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (21-20) on Tuesday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
With the game tied at 3-3 in the 10th, Noah Campbell started at second as the bonus runner for Biloxi. Thomas Dillard moved Campbell to third on a ground out before RHP Colton Hock (W, 3-2) induced a groundout from the next batter, keeping Campbell at third. Tristen Lutz ripped a single up the middle in the ensuing at bat, putting the Shuckers up 4-3. In the bottom of the 10th, RHP Nash Walters (L, 2-1) entered for Biloxi. Troy Johnston singled to put runners on the corners, but Walters responded by forcing a pop out from Paul McIntosh. The righty got to a two-strike count against Griffin Conine but the left fielder singled up the middle to tie the game. Ray-Patrick Didder then hit a fly ball to center field that was deep enough to score Johnston and give the Wahoos the 5-4 win.
Biloxi scored all their runs in regulation in the second inning. Dillard led off with a single and Reetz followed with a double to left. Lutz then smashed a double the opposite way, plating both runners to put the Shuckers up 2-0. Cam Devanney singled to put two runners back on base and a Gabe Holt sacrifice fly plated the third run of the frame to push Biloxi's lead to 3-0.
RHP Lucas Erceg opened for the Shuckers and didn't allow a run over two frames, striking out four. RHP Arnaldo Hernandez followed Erceg and surrendered the first run of the game on a double from Conine but limited the damage to just one run in his singular frame of work.
RHP Carlos Luna (H,1) came on for the Shuckers in the fourth and worked around a lead-off walk to throw up a scoreless frame. The Wahoos got within a run in the bottom of the fifth when Jose Devers walked, stole second, moved to third on a throwing error and scored on a sacrifice fly. Luna retired the next six batters in order and eight of the final nine he faced, tossing four hitless frames and allowing only one unearned run.
Pensacola tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning on a lead-off home run by McIntosh, his fifth of the year, knotting the game at 3-3. RHP Harold Chirino rebounded by throwing the next two innings, including a 1-2-3 ninth.
Game two at Blue Wahoos Stadium begins at 6:35 pm on Wednesday night. RHP Justin Bullock (0-0, 8.38) takes the mound for the Shuckers against Wahoos' RHP Eury Pérez.
