Wade, RiverDogs Even Series against Suns

CHARLESTON, SC - Tyler Wade stuffed the stat sheet and made great plays on defense during a 4-2 Charleston RiverDogs victory against the Hagerstown Suns on Friday night in front of 4,381 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park in South Atlantic League action. Wade collected two base hits, drove in a run, and scored another in the win.

The RiverDogs improved to 21-19 in the second half and 54-56 for the season. The Suns dropped to 26-15 and 70-41, respectively. This four-game series is now tied at one game apiece.

In the bottom of the third inning, Charleston scored the first run to take a 1-0 advantage. John Murphy singled to open the frame and reached third base on a single from Mark Payton. Wade sent a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Murphy for the go-ahead run.

Hagerstown quickly answered in the fourth inning, tying the game at 1-1. Wilman Rodriguez drew a one-out walk before advancing to third during a Jimmy Yezzo single. David Masters came through with a single of his own to bring in Rodriguez and even the score.

The RiverDogs claimed the lead at 4-1 in the fifth inning with a three-run rally. Following a leadoff fly out, Payton got on base with his third single in as many at bats. Payton made it to third base during a single from Wade. After a walk to Dustin Fowler loaded the bases, Miguel Andujar's infield single scored Payton. Michael O'Neill followed with a two-run single, plating Wade and Fowler to stretch out the lead.

The Suns cut the deficit to 4-2 in the seventh inning. Rafael Bautista began the inning with a double. Narciso Mesa grounded out to send Bautista to third base. Wilmer Difo reached on an error to put runners at the corners. Austin Chubb drove in Bautista with a sacrifice fly to get Hagerstown within two runs.

Defensively, Wade had a perfect game with no errors committed. He also made a couple of stellar plays, including a diving effort for an inning-ending fielder's choice in the eighth inning.

Luis Niebla received the victory and went to 1-0 for Charleston, allowing just one earned run in four innings out of the bullpen. Wirkin Estevez gave up all four runs and fell to 0-1 in a loss for Hagerstown. Angel Rincon pitched a pair of scoreless innings for his third save of the season.
