"This win was rewarding for our team," said Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris. "You could visibly see and feel the mood on the bench get more intense as the game progressed. No doubt the players were growing tired of letting winnable games slip away. Our compete level was very high. Peter Mannino gave a gutsy effort in net. The stops he made came when we needed him to be there."

The Monarchs took the lead for good when defenseman Slava Voynov scored a goal at 16:28 of the third period. Voynov prevented the puck from being cleared at the right point in the Phantoms zone. The defenseman settled the puck and then fired a slap shot midway up on the glove side that beat Phantoms goaltender Cal Heeter for his sixth goal of the season which brought the score to 3-2.

The Monarchs opened the scoring at 11:37 of the first period with a goal by center Linden Vey. Left wing Tanner Pearson dug the puck out of the left corner and skated toward the back of the net. Pearson fed a centering pass to right wing Tyler Toffoli in the slot. Toffoli shot the puck but it was denied by Heeter and produced a rebound on the left doorstep. Vey skated from the bottom of the left wing face-off circle and grabbed the loose puck. He got tripped up as he shot the puck just inside the right post scoring his seventh goal of the season.

Adirondack tied the game at 1-1 with a goal by right wing Mike Testwuide at 13:06 of the opening period. Left wing Tyler Brown took a feed from defenseman Jeff Dimmen and gained the Monarchs zone along the left wing boards. Dimmen skated to the left wing half wall before finding Testwuide skating down from the left point. Testwuide corralled the pass and wristed a shot high on the glove side of Monarchs goaltender Peter Mannino from inside the left wing face-off circle.

The Phantoms took a 2-1 lead on the power play at 19:16 of the opening frame with a goal by Brown.
