Voyagers Streak Halted by Helena

Great Falls (10-7) lost for just the second time at home this season, and had its seven-game winning streak snapped. The Voyagers are now 3-3 against Helena (9-8) in the season series. Great Falls finishes the home stand at 4-1.

The Brewers started the scoring for a third straight game with a single run in the 2nd. Je'Von Ward reached base with a one-out infield single. With two outs, Ward scored on a Jose Sibrian base hit lined into right.

Helena made it 2-0 with a run in the top of the 3rd. Jesus Lujano led off the frame with a double into the left field corner. A sacrifice bunt moved Lujano to third, and he scored on a sacrifice line drive to right off the bat of Jean Carmona.

The Voyagers took a short-lived lead with a three-run bottom of the 3rd. Jhoandro Alfaro walked to lead off the inning. Jay Estes doubled up the third base line. Ramon Beltre brought home the first run with a single to left. Lenyn Sosa gave Great Falls a 3-2 lead with a two-run single lined up the middle into center.

The Brewers leveled the game with a run in the 4th. Je'Von Ward cranked a solo home run high and deep to right-center. It was Ward's first of the season. Helena broke the tie with a two-run 5th. LG Castillo opened the frame with a triple banged high off the wall in right. Jesus Lujano lined an RBI single to center. Lujano later scored on a Chad McClanahan RBI single to right.

Great Falls made it interesting with a run-scoring 9th. Logan Sowers reached base on a dropped third strike to start the inning. After Sowers reached second on a wild pitch, Alex Destino punched an RBI single to left. Ryan Fitzpatrick reached with a hit-by-pitch. With the tying run at second and the winning run at first, the final two batters struck out swinging to end the game.

On the mound, Scott Sunitsch posted his first win of the season for Helena. Sunitsch (1-0) lasted six innings and yielded three earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Chris Comito took the loss for Great Falls. Comito (1-2) went five innings and gave up five earned runs on eight hits with one strikeout and one walk. Aaron Ashby earned his first professional save as he worked the final three innings and allowed one earned run on two hits with five strikeouts and no walks. Vince Arobio and Bennett Sousa combined to pitch four scoreless innings out of the Great Falls bullpen. Arobio struck out two while Sousa fanned three.

The Brewers outhit the Voyagers 9-to-5. Je'Von Ward, Jose Sibrian, and Jesus Lujano all had two-hit games. Ward and Lujano each scored twice. Alex Destino posted two hits in defeat.

Great Falls hits the road for a two-game series at Helena before returning home to face Missoula in a three-game series starting on the Fourth of July.
