Great Falls Voyagers News Release

Great Falls, MT - The Voyagers season-best winning streak has reached seven after a doubleheader sweep of the Helena Brewers Saturday night at Centene Stadium.

Great Falls (10-6) won game one 11-7, and held on for an 8-6 win in game two. The first-place Voyagers are 3-2 against Helena (8-8) in the season series. The Brewers fell two games back in the North Division standings, while Missoula is one game out of first.

Helena opened the scoring in game one with a 1st inning solo home run high and deep to center by Chad McClanahan. The Voyagers responded with a four-run 1st that set the tone for the rest of the game. Two infield errors, a walk, and a fielder's choice allowed Great Falls to score its first run. Cory Zangari then had an RBI single. Amado Nunez and Jimmy Galusky posted back-to-back RBI doubles. In the 2nd, Ramon Beltre made it 6-1 with a two-run home run high in the air to right. It was the second big fly for Beltre this season. After a three-run home run for Helena's David Fry in the top of the 3rd, the Voyagers clubbed back-to-back homers in the home half. Galusky led off the frame with a base hit. Adam McGinnis slugged his second of the season with a two-run shot to left-center for an 8-4 lead. The next batter, Jay Estes, launched his first professional home run deep up the left field line near the scoreboard for a five-run cushion. Great Falls scored its final two runs in the 4th, while Helena plated one in the 5th and two in 6th for the game's final margin.

The Brewers committed four errors, including two in the opening frame. The Voyagers were error free. Helena outhit Great Falls 13-to-10. Galusky, McGinnis, and Estes all had two-hit games in the win. Wyatt Burns picked up his first win in relief, and Nick Johnson notched his first save with three strikeouts over the final one-and-two-thirds.

Game two began much like game one, with Helena scoring in the top of the 1st. Jean Carmona slammed a one-out, solo home run deep to left-center. A David Fry double and two Great Falls errors made it 2-0. In the bottom of the 1st, Lenyn Sosa reached on an infield error. Logan Sowers singled to right. With two outs, Alex Destino drove in Sosa with a double to left. Helena led 3-1 after three. The Voyagers moved in front for good with a two-out, three-run home run blasted deep to left-center by Maiker Feliz. It was Feliz's second dinger of the season. In the 5th, Corey Zangari made it 6-3 with a two-run home run pounded deep to center. It was Zangari's first homer since the 2016 Pioneer League playoffs. The Brewers closed the gap to 6-4 with a run in the 6th. A two-run single in the bottom of the 6th by Sosa made it 8-4. Helena scored two in the top of the 7th and had a man on at third with the tying run at the plate when a strikeout ended the game.

Both teams made four errors in the nightcap. Great Falls outhit Helena 11-to-10. Sowers, Zangari, and Destino all collected two hits. Lane Ramsey earned the win in relief. Ramsey (1-0) worked three innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits with four strikeouts and one walk. In his Voyagers debut, Matt Portland lasted four innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk.

Great Falls closes out its five-game home stand Sunday afternoon. First pitch at Centene Stadium is scheduled for 4 p.m. The Voyagers then hit the road for a two-game series at Helena Monday and Tuesday before returning home to face Missoula for the Fourth of July.
