Voyagers Lose Second Straight in Helena

Helena, MT - The Voyagers opened the game with a four-run first but the offense fizzled after that in a 10-5 loss to the Brewers Thursday night at Kindrick Legion Field.

Helena now leads the series 2-to-1. Great Falls (32-36, 10-20) fell to 5-10 in the season series with Helena. The Voyagers dropped to 12-22 on the road, and they are just 1-6 at Kindrick this season. Helena (33-36, 16-15) has won two in a row and improved to 18-16 at home.

The Voyagers scored four times on five hits in the top of the first to open the scoring. Lenyn Sosa reached base on an infield single to short. Logan Sowers singled to center. After a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third, Amado Nunez hit a sacrifice fly to right for the first run. Alex Destino followed with an RBI single. And, Ryan Fitzpatrick capped the frame with a two-run home run deep to left for his fifth of the season and a 4-0 lead.

The Brewers cut the lead in half with a two-spot in the bottom of the first. Je'Von Ward and Brice Turang both walked to start the inning. After a sacrifice bunt, David Fry hit a sacrifice fly to center for the first run. Bryan Torres trimmed it to 4-2 with an infield RBI single. In the second, Ward tripled and later scored on an RBI groundout from Turang.

Helena took the lead for the first time with a two-run third. David Fry led off with an infield single. With two outs, Connor McVey walked and stole second. Jose Sibrian put the Brewers ahead 5-4 with a two-run single to center.

Great Falls leveled the game at 5-5 with a one-out solo home run in the top of the fourth by Romy Gonzalez. Gonzalez sent it high and deep to left for his team-leading 10th dinger of the season.

The Brewers quickly answered with another two-run inning in the home half of the fourth. Je'Von Ward singled to left. With two outs, David Fry singled home Ward. Bryan Torres then singled to left. Pablo Abreu made it 7-5 with an RBI single to center. Helena plated one in the sixth and two more for good measure in the eighth.

Helena outhit Great Falls 15-to-11. David Fry, Bryan Torres, and Pablo Abreu all posted three hits and two RBIs for the Brewers. Je'Von Ward had two hits with three runs scored. Gunnar Troutwine finished with three hits for the Voyagers. Romy Gonzalez, Logan Sowers, and Alex Destino all had two hits.

On the mound, Tyler Tungate picked up his first win of the season in relief. Tungate (1-0) worked three scoreless and hitless with two strikeouts and no walks. Chris Comito took the loss in relief. Comito lasted three innings and allowed three earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and no walks.
