Boise Hawks News Release

The Boise Hawks (13-11) couldn't "out-slug" the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (14-10) in the 2nd game of the series on Sunday evening. The Volcanoes got a 12-7 win despite Boise scoring six runs in the 2nd inning for the 2nd game in a row.

Salem-Keizer scored the games first runs in the bottom of the 1st off of Hawks starting pitcher Colton Pate. David Villar had an RBI double to get the games first run on the board, and then it was a two-run home run for Wander Franco to make it a 3-0 game.

The Hawks repeated what they did in the 2nd inning yesterday though. Daniel Jipping got an infield hit and Cade Harris singled. Boise got and RBI knock from Willie Maciver to get their first run of the game making it 3-1. The big hit of the inning came from Matt Hearn. The lefty hit a triple into the gap scoring two making it 3-3.

The Hawks wouldn't stop there though. After an error by Salem-Keizer's third baseman Villar, Hearn scored on the misplayed groundball to make it 4-3. Danny Edgeworth put the icing on the cake in the 2nd when he singled in two runs to make it a 6-3 Hawks lead.

Salem-Keizer responded though in the third inning. Joey Bart hit a solo home run to left field and made it a 6-4 Boise lead. With two men on base, Mikey Edie hit a ball down the left field line that was ruled a home run. Hawks Manager Scott Little disagreed, thinking the baseball was foul, and was ejected from the game with the score at 7-6 in favor of Salem-Keizer. In the 4th inning, Luis Castro came back and hit his 4th home run of the year for the Hawks to tie the game at seven.

Salem-Keizer added more with a two-run homerun from Jose Layer in the 6th making it 9-7 Volcanoes. Salem-Keizer added on three more in the 8th on a Bart 2-RBI double and a Villar RBI single making it 12-7.

The loss for Boise puts them at 13-11 for the season. The Hawks will finish up the three game series tomorrow with a 7:35 p.m. MT first pitch from Volcanoes Stadium.

The Hawks will return home for a five-game series against the Vancouver Canadians starting on July 11th. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Get your tickets at BoiseHawks.com or call 208-322-5000.
