
Volcanoes Lose Game Two at Hillsboro

HILLSBORO, Oregon - The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes couldn't match the Hillsboro Hops' offense as the Volcanoes take lose 6-3 in game two of the three game series.
Center fielder Bryan Reynolds had a strong game for the Volcanoes going 3-4 with two runs scored. Left fielder Gio Brusa led the team in RBI's with two.
The Volcanoes got on the board early in the first inning as Brusa hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Reynolds.
However, the Hops matched the Volcanoes' run with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning as third baseman Josh Anderson hit his second home run of the season, a deep fly ball to left field.
The Hops got another run in the bottom of the second when right fielder Stephan Smith scored on a fielder's choice to Volcanoes' shortstop Ryan Howard.
The Volcanoes would not go down without a fight as they scored two runs in the top half of the third. Brusa got his second RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly to left field to bring in third baseman Manuel Geraldo. The second run came when catcher John Riley grounded out to the shortstop to bring in Reynolds.
Going into the bottom half of the inning, the Volcanoes saw their final lead of the game at 3-2.
The Hops tied the game as they put up another run in the bottom of the third. Designated hitter Luke Lowery had an RBI single to left field to bring in center fielder Marcus Wilson.
The Hops continued their assault on the Volcanoes in the bottom of the fourth as second baseman Adam Walton hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in left fielder Ben DeLuzio.
The final two runs for the Hops came in the bottom of the fifth as Lowery singled to center field to bring in shortstop Mark Karaviotis. Right fielder Stephen Smith singled to the shortstop to bring in Anderson. Making the score 6-3 in favor of the Hops.
That was all the Hops needed to get the win as both teams failed to score in the final four innings.
Melvin Adon picked up the loss for the Volcanoes, moving his record to 1-4 as he pitched 4.1 innings, giving up eleven hits, five earned runs, along with one strikeout.
Hengerber Medina, who pitched 3.2 innings, allowed no runs while only allowing one hit in his relief appearance for Adon.
Wei-Chieh Huang started for the Hops and pitched 3.0 innings, giving up three runs off four hits, while striking out three.
Anfernee Benitez got the win out of the bullpen for the Hops as he pitched 5.0 innings, allowing no runs off just one hit and striking out four.
Riley Smith got his second save of the season as he pitched the ninth inning giving up no runs, no hits, and striking out two batters to close out the game.
The finale of the three game series will be Sunday afternoon, July 31, at 1:05 p.m. as lefty Matt Krook will take the mound for the Volcanoes and will face off against fellow lefty Junior Garcia for Hillsboro.
