Salem-Keizer Volcanoes News Release

The SALEM-KEIZER VOLCANOES are proud to announce that baseball legend HAL MORRIS will be coming to Volcanoes Stadium on Thursday, July 15. Mr. Morris will be signing free autographs on the concourse for approximately one hour before the game. After throwing out the honorary first pitch, Mr. Morris will continue meeting and greeting fans at the game.

Thursday's game is between the Volcanoes and the Tri-City Dust Devils and starts at 6:35 p.m. Gates will open at 5:30 PM.

Hal Morris played Major League Baseball from 1988 to 2000. After being a walk-on at the University of Michigan, Morris was drafted into the New York Yankees farm system as an 8th Round draft pick in 1986. During 1988-89, Morris played the first two years with the Yankees, along side Don Mattingly—his childhood hero. In 1990, Morris was traded to the Cincinnati Reds, where he would play 10 ½ out of the next 12 seasons. It was with the Reds that Morris won the 1990 World Series driving in the game winning RBI in both games Three and Four. Morris was second in NL batting in 1991--losing the title on the very last day to Atlanta's Terry Pendleton--and his .304 lifetime batting average is 11th on the Reds all-time roster, such greats as Pete Rose and Hall of Famers Edd Roush and Jake Beckley are in front of him. The highlight of his career was a 32-game hitting streak and an impressive .304 lifetime batting average.

Equally as impressive as Mr. Morris' playing statistics is his off-the field career. After retiring from baseball Morris finished his undergraduate Biology degree and was accepted into the Graduate School of Business at Stanford, the nation's top business program.
