Voice of the Stamps Honoured by Hall of Fame

The Calgary Stampeder Football Club would like to congratulate Mark Stephen, the longtime radio play-by-play voice of the Red and White, for being added to the media wing of the Canadian Football League Hall of Fame.
Stephen, who has been calling Stamps games on QR77 for 18 years, will officially be honoured on Nov. 24 in Regina.
"The Stampeders congratulate Mark on this richly deserved honour," said team president Gordon Norrie. "Mark's passion and knowledge are reflected in the superior quality of his work and, for a generation of football fans in Southern Alberta, the sound of his voice is synonymous with Stampeders football. I know our fans join us in congratulating Mark."
A native Calgarian, Stephen called his first Stampeders game in 1996. He was joined the following year by ex-Stamps player Greg Peterson as colour commentator and the duo has been together ever since, resulting in the longest-running broadcast tandem in CFL history.
Stephen has called nearly 400 Stampeders games in his career and he was in the booth during the Red and White's championship seasons in 1998, 2001 and 2008.
Other Calgary media personalities to have been honoured by the Canadian Football Hall of Fame include Henry Viney, Ken Newans, Eric Bishop, Gorde Hunter, Hal Walker, Al Ruckaber and Allan Maki.
The Stampeders' next home action comes on Friday, Oct. 11 when Calgary hosts the BC Lions. Kickoff at McMahon Stadium is at 7 p.m. and tickets are available at Stampeders.com.
