Vogrin Primed for First Start with Madison
June 30, 2016 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release
A night after the Mallards (19-11) found themselves as walk-off winners against the Rivets, Madison will take on the Lakeshore Chinooks (11-19) in a game that is as important to the Mallards as any game for the rest of the season. Madison finds themselves a game back of the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters with six games to play and can't afford to fall any further behind the first place team.
Zach Jarrett (UNC-Charlotte) continued his power surge yesterday, going 3-5 with four RBIs, all coming via the walk-off grand slam. The long ball tied him with Sam Armstrong (Jacksonville) for the team-leader in home runs (5) as well as extended his team-leading RBI total to 25.
Winners in four of their last five games, Madison will throw Mitch Vogrin (Illinois State) in tonight's contest. Making his first start of the 2016 season, Vogrin has pitched in 9.2 innings across nine outings, striking out 11 and posting a 2.79 ERA. In his sophomore season at Illinois State, two of Vogrin's 25 appearances were starts.
Lakeshore will hand the ball to Marshall Kasowski (Houston), who will be making his third start of the season. Kasowski appeared in long relief against the Mallards on June 9th, throwing five innings in the appearances. He allowed one run, struck out seven and earned the no-decision in the Chinooks win. He is 1-0 on the season with a 2.95 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 21.2 innings of work.
Tonight's game against the Lakeshore Chinooks is set for 7:05 pm. The game will feature a Balking Dead Maynard Bobblehead giveaway. There will also be a Schwinn Family of Bikes (4) giveaway. UW-Health Sports Medicine will hold a clinic developing swing fundamentals & power baseball clinic from 9 am to 12 pm. The clinic is $40 for ages 8-16. Tickets are available for purchase by visiting MallardsBaseball.com, calling the Mallards ticket office at 608-246-4277, or stopping in the ticket office at 2920 N Sherman Ave.
