Bombers Win Back-And-Forth Game, 8-6, over the Kingfish

The Battle Creek Bombers won a back-and-forth game against the Kenosha Kingfish, 8-6, taking the lead in the eighth inning for good.

The Bombers struck first in the top of the first inning as they loaded the bases on two walks and a single by Daniel Jipping before Alex Hamilton walked Nick Podkul to give the Bombers a 1-0 lead.

The Kingfish, though, would battle back and take the lead in the bottom of the second inning. After Gunnar McNiel reached on a fielder's choice, Micah Coffey reached on an error to put runners on first and second. Nick Kanavas and Cal Jadacki followed with a single and a double before Dylan Rosa scored Jadacki on a sacrifice fly to give the Kingfish a 4-1 lead.

The Bombers would come back, scoring one in the top of the third and two in the top of the fourth to tie the game at four. In the third, Dean Miller walked and came around to score on Christian Helsel's sacrifice fly while in the fourth Cody Sporrer knocked in Ryan Dorow after he led off the inning with a walk and came around to score on Miller's single.

But yet again the Kingfish would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth as Marty Bechina was hit by a pitch, moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt, stole third and scored on an error by Dorow as he couldn't handle catcher Truman Brown's throw.

In the top of the sixth, the Bombers would tie the game as Miller came around to score after being hit by a pitch, and take the lead in the top of the seventh as Daniel Patzlaff drove in Sporrer to give the Bombers an 6-5 lead.

But yet again, the Kingfish would tie it as Blake Reese tripled and stole home to tie the game at six.

From there though it was all Battle Creek as the Bombers scored in the top of the eighth and ninth innings, and went on to top the Kenosha Kingfish, 8-6.

The Bombers drew 15 walks in the game, a season high, as they scored eight runs on eight hits to top the Kingfish.

Nigel Ward picked up the win for the Bombers while Brandon Guske nailed down the five-out save, his fifth save of the season. JR Holloway took the loss for the Kingfish.

With the win the Bombers move to 16-15 on the year, while the Kingfish drop to 13-17.

The Bombers finish off their six-game roadtrip Friday night as they go for the two-game sweep of the Kingfish at 7:05 CST/8:05 EST.
