Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Myrtle Beach, SC - Arodys Vizcaino sat down the first six batters he faced Friday night in Myrtle Beach. By the time he came out for his third inning of work, he had a five-run lead and that was more than enough, as he coasted through seven scoreless innings on his way to his first win since opening day.
The Hillcats struck first in the top of the first inning. Todd Cunningham was hit by the pitch to lead off the game. Andrelton Simmons then doubled down the left field line putting runners at second and third with nobody out. Phil Gosselin grounded out scoring Cunningham from third and the Hillcats led 1-0 in the first.
Lynchburg broke the game open in the top of the third inning. Four runners crossed home plate with two outs in the inning. Gosselin doubled home Cunningham to start the two-out rally. A walk and a hit batter then loaded the bases for Joe Leonard. Leonard doubled to the wall in right field, clearing the bases, and the Hillcats took a commanding 5-0 lead.
While the bats put the game out of reach, Lynchburg starter, Arodys Vizcaino (2-2) completed seven innings of shutout work. Vizcaino allowed just two hits, walked none, and struck out six.
The Hillcats tacked on three more runs through out the contest, one in each the fifth, sixth, and eighth innings. Joe Leonard finished the night with a season high four RBI, leading the Hillcats to an 8-1 victory over the Pelicans.
Myrtle Beach avoided the shutout in the bottom of the ninth inning. Jared Bolden tripled with one out and scored on a sacrifice fly to right field.
Myrtle Beach starter, Barret Loux (2-3) suffered the loss allowing six runs through just four and two-thirds innings.
The Hillcats improved to 12-20, while the Pelicans fell to 21-12 on the year.
The series continues tomorrow night at BB&T Coastal Field. First pitch will be at 7:05 pm and the Hillcats On-Deck powered by Honda/Suzuki of Lynchburg will go on the air at 6:40 pm. Listen to all the action on 105.5 KD Country and online at lynchburg-hillcats.com.
