K-Tribe Homestand Starts Tonight
May 13, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Kinston Indians News Release
Kinston kicks off a seven game homestand tonight at Historic Grainger Stadium. 6:30 pm start time against the Baltimore Orioles affiliate the Frederick Keys.
Mother Nature You Have Been a Big...Pain - Through 19 home games this season, Kinston has been rained out twice, has had two starts delayed by rain, one game stopped early because of rain and two other in-game rain delays. It has rained just a tenth of an inch at Grainger Stadium when Kinston has been on the road this season.
Wacky Week - From Tuesday the 3rd of May to May 10th, Kinston played baseball on just four of those eight days, including playing in just two of the last five days of the stretch. Two rainouts, a first inning suspension and a scheduled off day helped with the weird week. The K-Tribe is currently on a stretch of 17 straight days without a scheduled off day. May 29th will be the teams last off day of the first half, as the K-Tribe is scheduled to play on 38 of the last 39 days of the half.
A Phenomenal 'Pen- Myrtle Beach plated a run against Kinston reliever Toru Murata in the sixth inning of Thursday's game to bring an impressive streak to an end. The K-Tribe's bullpen threw 39.2 innings without giving up an earned run (including three unearned runs and two inherited base runner allowed to score). The streak dated back to game one of a double header against Salem on April 27th and includes five innings on Sunday in which the pen picked up an extra innings loss.
Preston Impresses - The back end of the bullpen has been excellent as closer Preston Guilmet got his fifth save in as many opportunities on Saturday. In ten appearances (11 1/3 ip) Guilmet has given up just six hits, no runs and has not walked a batter yet this season. He has struck out 13 on the season.
