
Vitucci Leaves Grrrowl After Five Seasons

Greenville, SC: The Greenville Grrrowl of the East Coast Hockey League has announced that Assistant Coach NICK VITUCCI is leaving the organization after five seasons to pursue other hockey career opportunities. VITUCCI was the first Grrrowl player signed to play in 1998 for the expansion franchise in the ECHL, and has been named as the All-Time Leading Goaltender on the 10th and 15th Anniversary ECHL teams. VITUCCI played in 573 games for 13 teams throughout his playing career. VITUCCI has served as assistant coach for the Grrrowl for the past three seasons.
"There is no one who has meant more to the ECHL and the Grrrowl than Nick Vitucci", stated Carl Scheer, Chairman/CEO of ScheerSports. "We have certainly enjoyed our time with Nick, and the entire community of Greenville will miss him, both as a player and coach. Nick will always have a special place in Grrrowl history, and we wish him well on his new endeavors."
VITUCCI played for and won four (4) ECHL Championships, was the assistant coach for his 5th ECHL Championship for the Grrrowl during the 2001-02 season, won two (2) ECHL playoff MVP awards, and earned two (2) ECHL All-Star selections. In 1997, "The Hockey News" named VITUCCI the ECHL All-Time Goaltender for his accomplishments.
"I am very grateful for the opportunity to have worked with John Marks and Carl Scheer over the past few years, as a player and coach," said Nick Vitucci. "My family and I have had tremendous support from the fans the organization, and we will certainly miss the Greenville community. I will be pursuing every possible option to remain in the coaching profession. Coaching is something I love and want to continue to grow in for many years to come."
"It has certainly been a great seven year stretch with Nick in Charlotte and Greenville," said John Marks, VP of Hockey Operations and Head Coach of the Grrrowl. "We have experienced two (2) championships, a lot of wins, and a strong personal and professional relationship over the years. Our relationship will continue down the road as he seeks other opportunities and we may very well find ourselves on competing benches someday. He is prepared to move ahead in this business, and I wish the very best for Nick and his family."
