Chiefs Complete Trade With Augusta

Johnstown, PA- Johnstown Chiefs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Toby O'Brien announced today that they have acquired the rights of Augusta Lynx defenseman Ryan Crane and forward Josh St. Louis (SAINT-Louis). The acquisition completed the February 26th trade that sent Phil Roy to Augusta for future considerations.

"Jason Shmyr, picked up for his character and leadership at the trade deadline in a three way trade involving Augusta and Dayton, spoke highly of both players both on and off the ice and that complete player and person is important to the way we operate our franchise," said O'Brien.

St. Louis, 27, played in 57 games for Augusta last season, scoring 18 goals and 30 points. Prior to joining the Lynx in 2001-02 season, The 6'3, 225 LBS native of Calgary, ALTA played three years of collegiate hockey with Acadia University (CIAU), and three years of junior hockey with Swift Current (WHL). In his last season with Swift Current (1996-97), St. Louis had 57 goals and 108 points in just 65 games.

"We specifically asked for these two players to be included in the list of futures we received from Augusta in the Phil Roy trade. Josh St. Louis is a big man, yet has a scorers touch around the net. He had 127 goals and 246 points in three years in the Western Hockey League, he has high character and should be a great addition to our hockey club, as he is coming off a strong season in Augusta," said O'Brien.

Crane, 23, appeared in 68 games last season for Augusta scoring 8 goals and 24 points. The 6'0, 205 LBS native of Mississauga, ONT played four seasons of collegiate hockey at Western Michigan University where he was a team mate of former Chiefs David Gove, Kevin Clauson, Jeff Lukasak and Chuck Mindel.

"Ryan Crane is more of an offensive defenseman. He is very solid in his own end as well. I would compare him to a Jay Langager, who could do a little of everything for our hockey club. Discussions were already initiated by Ryan's agent in the hopes of getting a tentative deal worked out, pending the CBA negotiations," O'Brien added.
